Jason Barnard: Founder and CEO of WTPL Music

Jason Barnard founded WTPL Music in 1991. WTPL music is a French record label and music publisher.

No record companies would sign the street busking punk-folk band, The Barking Dogs, so Jason Barnard founded WTPL Music in Paris in 1991 to allow the band to turn professional.

The idea was that, once The Barking Dogs had released an album and toured, a major record label such as EMI or Virgin would take over. No record companies wanted to work with the Barking Dogs.

With the independent record Label, WTPL Music, The Barking Dogs sold over 40,000 copies of four albums and played over 600 concerts across Europe, supporting musicians such as Bob Dylan, Captain Sensible, Manu Chao, and Henry Rollins.

With Jason Barnard as CEO from 1991 to 1998, WTPL Music signed deals with major labels such as EMI and Warner Chappell.
